CLINTON, S.C. On Saturday, April 22, the Presbyterian College mens lacrosse team gathered for their first annual banquet on the PC campus. Senior defenseman Ashton Elmore (Ft. Motte, S.C.), sophomore attacker Jared Domino (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada) and freshmen Drew Tobias (Whitsett, N.C.) and David Hetu (Apex, N.C.) received individual honors as selected by the coaching staff. Domino, a product of St. Albert Catholic High School, was selected as the Offensive MVP after leading the team with 38 points on team-highs of 22 goals, including three man-up goals, and 16 assists. An everyday starter, he also hustled after 24 ground balls. The D.A.C.R.M. Defensive MVP Award, given in honor of the programs first defensive unit as D.A.C.R.M. represents the first letter of the first name of the entire defensive unit (Drew Tobias, Ashton Elmore, Carl Spilly, Reese LeMay, and Matt Roach), had Elmore as its first recipient. One of two team captains this season, Elmores leadership was the glue that held together the defensive unit. A graduate of Calhoun Academy, he started and played in the Blue Hose first eight games before having his season cut short due to injury. Tobias and Hetu were the co-winners of the Joshua Louis Kay Unsung Hero Award - given in honor of Josh Kay, PCs volunteer assistant coach who goes well beyond what is expected thus being the true Unsung Hero of the men's lacrosse program. Tobias, a graduate of Southeast Guilford HS, played in all 11 games with 10 starting assignments, compiling team-bests of 57 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers along with assisting on a goal. Hetu, a product of Apex HS, was between the pipes as the everyday starting goalie, posting a .451 saves percentage and 19.18 goals against average in 660 minutes of action. Blue Hose head coach Jason Childs cited 21 players as letterwinners for the 2006 season. In its inaugural season, Presbyterian College compiled a 2-9 overall record including a 1-8 mark in the Deep South Conference. The Blue Hose posted wins over Manhattanville College and Lees-McRae College. |
