Queens 13, Mars Hill 12
On Friday Queens played a must win game vs Mars Hill. The Royals came into the game knowing that they needed a win to keep their NCAA hopes alive and also to avoid dropping all the way to 5th if they lost. The Lions entered the game alone in first place and in first place in the NCAA South region. The game was every thing it was billed to be as both teams played it like heavywieght fighters in a championship bout.

The Royals struck first on a goal from Freshman Stephan LeBlanc then followed with another goal just 30 seconds later a goal from Freshmen Zach Jacobs off an Alex Tack feed. The Lions waited two minutes before answering back when Dave Hodgins scored which started a run for Mars Hill as they then added 3 more to take a 4-2 lead. Queens though answered back with 9 seconds left in the quarter on a goal by Randy Jones who beat his man clean and took it in for the goal to make it 4-3.

The second quarter proved to be almost all Mars Hill as they added 4 more goals with Queens only able to add 1 to make it 8-4 going into the half.

The third quarter helped the Royals climb back on into the game. Dan MacMahon was crucial facing off winning 5 of 6 giving Queens some much needed possessions. The Royals were able to capitalize adding 4 goals as freshmen DeAndre Ingram, Zach Jacobs and Stephan LeBlanc all added one and Dave Overberg added one off a Alex Tack feed, with just 30 seconds to go to make it 10-8 Lions.

The Royals scored to open the 4th to pull with in one as Overberg scored again off a nice feed from Stephan LeLbanc. Just one minute later Owen Ham tied it up for Queens. But the tie was short lived as Brad Campbell for Mars Hill added one just 30 seconds later to put the Lions on top again.

Queens answered back to tie it again when Overberg again scored off a Tack feed. But again it did not take long for Mars Hill to strike back to tie it up again. Then 2 minutes later LeBlanc scored his 4th goal of the game to put Queens up again, one minute later Queens added another goal by Tack to put them up by 2 with 4 minutes to go. in a game like this 2 did not seem like enough of a lead and it was not as with 1 minute and 24 left Dave Kemp scored to make it 13-12 Royals.

With 34 seconds left the Lions had the ball in their end and the Royals took a costly penalty and found themselves down a man to end the game. But the man down unit responded and was able to kill the penalty and hold onto the win.

Queens is now 7-4 on the year and 7-2 in the conference. The Lions fell to 10-3 and 7-2 in the conference. Seedings for the tournament will be announced Saturday. The first round will be held at the top four seeds on April 18th while the final 4 and the championship game will be at Memorial Stadium in Charlotte on April 21 and 23.
