Queens University of Charlotte 13, Limestone 5
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 8, 2006) - The Queens University of Charlotte Royals had one of their biggest wins in their 3 year history today when they upset # 6 Limestone 13-5 at home at the new Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park in Charlotte.

This game looked like it was going to be a key game for both teams going in. Limestone, which had lost last year's national championship in OT had just lost to the #2 Lemoyne and were looking to get back in the win column. The Royals needed a win after stumbling in their first game losing to Wingate in 2 OT's . This was also a big game for both teams in conference and regional play.

The Royals were able to strike first, when Randy Jones scored unassisted in the first two minutes to give the Royals a lead they would never relinquish. 1 Minute later Queens struck again on a goal from Owen Ham off a Nick Mezzanotte feed.

Dan McMahon was crucial early for Queens as he won 5 of 7 face off's to help Queens control the ball and the clock. Alex Tack scored 2 of his 6 goals on the day and with a goal by DeAndre Ingram the Royals ended the quarter up 5-1.

On the defensive end, Queens received some strong goalie play by Joel Heimbigner and the defensive effort to help thwart the Saints comeback. Queens added 3 more goals before half to make it 8-1 at the break.

In the third quarter Queens struck first on a goal by Tack then Limestone answered soon after on a goal by Brad Patridge. Queens answered back before the quarter was out to make it 11-3 heading into the fourth. Limestone scored two early to start to climb back in but Queens was able to answer back later in the quarter with two goals by Andy Capallo and added another goal by Tack.

Limestone added 1 more to make it the final 13-5.

The loss was the first time that Limestone has lost a conference in regular season game since 1997, including a 64 game stretch. The win puts Queens at 2-1 and Limestone fell to 3-2.

" I thought our kids did a great job, they executed when we needed to and played smart and gave me all they had. It was a great team effort as well as some great individual efforts. I could not ask for more. My assistants, Taylor Wray and Peter Carlevatti had a good defensive game plan and the kids executed it well. Our guys worked hard all year and any time you can beat a team of Limestone's caliber it's good win for your program." Said Coach Fritz
