Deep South Lacrosse All-Conference Teams Announced
April 20, 2005

ROCK HILL, SC – Limestone College senior attack man Roger Vyse (Six Nations Reserve, Ontario), who led all of Division II in goals per game and points per game, was named the Deep South Conference Player of the Year, the league announced today.

Roger VyseVyse helped lead the Saints, ranked second in the nation, to an undefeated season and their eighth straight undefeated season in the Deep South.

Anthony TrioloMars Hill College midfielder Anthony Triolo (Hicksville, NY), who led the Lions with a team-high 30 goals and 12 assists, was named Freshman of the Year.

Queens University of Charlotte head Jim Fritz, who led the Royals to a second-place finish in the league in just the team’s second year of varsity competition, was named Coach of the Year. Fritz wins this award for the third time in his career. He previously won it twice while head coach at Pfeiffer University.

Vyse was one of seven Saints to be named All-Conference, with six selected to the First Team. Joining Vyse on the First Team are David Wooster, Nolan Heavenor, Pat Cardiff, Sean McQuinn and goalie Marty Ward.

Queens had three All-Conference selections, with Alex Tack a First Team selection.

St. Andrews Presbyterian College also had three on the squad, with midfielder Patrick Fitzgerald and defender Kris Hartzell on the First Team.

Catawba had three selections, with defender Ed O’Learly on the First Team.

Mars Hill’s Triolo was the Lions’ only All-Conference selection, making First Team at midfield.

Pfeiffer University placed three players on the Second Team. Lees-McRae had two representative on the Second Team.

The Deep South Conference Tournament begins Tuesday with four quarterfinal games. Lees-McRae is at top seed Limestone, while second seed Queens hosts Pfeiffer. Third seed Catawba hosts Wingate, while fourth seed St. Andrews hosts Mars Hill.

The Deep South Conference Tournament semifinals will be played Friday at Wingate University in Wingate, N.C. The winner of the Lees-McRae/Limestone game will face the Mars Hill/St. Andrews winner at 1 p.m. The Pfeiffer/Queens winner and Wingate/Catawba winner will square off at 4 p.m.

The championship game is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday
