CLINTON, S.C. - David Hetu, William Rinaldi, and Matthew Roach have signed national letters of intent to play men's lacrosse at Presbyterian College announced today by head coach Pat Lynch. Hetu, a 5-7, 145-pound goalie from Apex, NC, plays for Apex High School and head coach John Hayden. Hetu earned All-State honors as a junior and was named the team's defensive MVP in 2004. "David is a fine young man with an excellent attitude about what we are expecting from him at PC," said Lynch. "He has excellent hands and tracks the ball very well. He is the type of person that will make his teammates here at PC strive to perform at their highest level in practice as well as games". Rinaldi, a 5-11, 160-pound midfielder from Birmingham, AL, plays for Shades Valley High School and head coach Brian McIntosh. Rinaldi scored 40 goals and added 20 assists in 2004 for his high school team. During the summer, he plays for the Birmingham men's lacrosse team and head coach Greg Wingo and in 10 games this past summer, he scored 35 goals with 15 assists. He is also a member of his school's cross-country team where he qualified for the state tournament and was named the team's co-captain this past season. "Billy has the playing experience we are looking for in our offensive players. Billy's stick skills are very sound and we have the utmost confidence that he will be able to create scoring opportunities, not only for himself, but for his teammates as well". Roach, a 6-1, 190-pound goalie from Greensboro, NC, plays for Southeast High School and head coach Mark Goldsmith. Roach, a team captain in 2004, posted a 52% save percentage with 87 saves this past season. "Matthew is a phenomenal athlete that is very fast and smart out of the net. When watching Matthew play, I knew I had to get this young man to PC. He will push his teammates to excel and be a great leader as we make the jump to varsity status". Hetu, Rinaldi, and Roach are the first signees for the Blue Hose men's lacrosse recruiting class of 2005. The PC men's lacrosse team will move from club stats to varsity level starting with the 2005-06 academic year. "These three young men are excellent student-athletes and are up to the challenge of PC's rigorous academic curriculum. We are very excited that they have accepted the honor of being the first signees for our first varsity year. We could not have asked three better gentlemen to represent Blue Hose Athletics for the next four years." |
