Catawba Earns DSC Tourney Third Seed With 15-7 Win Over Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. – Catawba College set a record for wins in a season as the Indians defeated host Wingate 15-7 in Deep South Conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field.

Jason Windett (Magnolia, DE) paced the Tribe with six goals as Catawba improves to 8-5 overall and 5-2 in the DSC. Wingate falls to 4-7 and 3-4.

Catawba, the third-seed, will host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday against an opponent to be determined. Wingate, the fifth-seed, will travel to Pfeiffer.

Windett started the scoring for Catawba with a man-up goal just over four minutes into the game and the Indians never trailed. Paul Duggan (Wantagh, NY) cut the deficit to 2-1 for Wingate on the first of his two goals with 4:11 left in the opening quarter, but Catawba added two more goals before the end of the period to lead 4-1 after a quarter.

Catawba led 7-4 at the break and scored four of the first five goals of the second half to take command. Wingate tallied twice to get within 11-7, but the Indians scored the final four goals, three by Windett in the final period, to take the win.

Following Windett in the scoring for Catawba was senior David Dunnuck (Greensboro, NC), who had five points on two goals and three assists. Wingate got two goals each from Duggan and Matt DiMartino (Bay Shore, NY), while Steve Maxwell (Media, PA) had three points on a goal and two assists.

Limestone Romps Over Pfeiffer, 30-6

MISENHEIMER, NC: The Limestone College men's lacrosse team improved to 11-0 on the season with a 30-6 romp over the Pfeiffer University Falcons.

Limestone scored the first 10 goals of the game and never looked back. The Saints out shot the Falcons 43-17. David Wooster racked up 8 points on 6 goals and 2 assists. Chris Barrett added five goals and an assist while Roger Vyse netted 4 goals and assisted on one more.

Thirteen different Saints scored in the victory. Eight Saints scored multiple goals.

Trevor Krauss netted 4 of Pfeiffer's 6 goals.

Limestone will return to action on Tuesday, April 20 as they host a first round game of the Deep South Conference Tournament. That game will begin at 4:00. Limestone's opponent for that game is not yet known.
