Catawba Tops Pfeiffer, 12-6

MISENHEIMER, NC -- Catawba senior David Dunnuck (Greensboro, NC) scored five goals as the Indians defeated host Pfeiffer 12-6 in Deep South Conference men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.

Catawba improves to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the DSC, while the Falcons fall to 2-4 and 1-2.

Dunnuck scored three of the first four Tribe goals as Catawba built a 4-0 lead. Pfeiffer would get on the board with 2:17 left in the half on a tally by Eugene Thomas (Gaithersburg, MD). Trailing 5-1 at the half, the Falcons scored two quick goals to open the second half to pull within 5-3 at the 13:19 mark. Catawba answered later, scoring twice in a 16 second span to go up 7-3 with 10:09 left in the third quarter.

Pfeiffer closed within 8-5 with 3:37 remaining in the third quarter after consecutive goals by Trevor Krauss (Owings, MD), but Dunnuck closed the quarter with his fifth goal for a 9-5 lead. Matt Riley (Baltimore, MD) scored twice in the fourth quarter to help the Indians stay in front. He had three assists on the day. Catawba held a 56-22 edge in shots and won 18 of 21 face-offs.

Limestone Wins Big Over Lees-McRae

GAFFNEY, SC: The Limestone College men's lacrosse team (5-0) improved to 2-0 in the Deep South Conference with a 22-1 win over Lees-McRae College on Wednesday.

The Saints jumped ahead early scoring three goals in the first five minutes and eight in the first quarter. Limestone's defense was outstanding. The Saints out shot the Bobcats 36-1 in the first half.

Four Saints turned a hat trick in the win. David Wooster, Chris Barrett, Nolan Heavenor, and Harley Beekman each netted three goals for Limestone. Wooster added two assists as well.

Limestone improved to 5-0 on the season and will return to action on Saturday, March 27, as they host Wingate in another DSC game. Saturday's match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
