Wingate, N.C.----The St. Andrews Presbyterian College mens lacrosse team scored four third-quarter goals to take a 9-8 Deep South Conference win over host Wingate University Wednesday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field on the Wingate campus. With the win, St. Andrews Presbyterian improves to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the DSC. Wingate is 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the DSC. Wingate travels to Pfeiffer University Wednesday (March 17) for a 3:30 p.m. DSC game. Wingate led 6-5 at halftime. Bulldog senior attack Steve Maxwell (Media, Pa.) scored the first goal of the third quarter to give the hosts a 7-5 lead at the 12:04 mark. St. Andrews responded with four unanswered goals to take the lead and the win. St. Andrews freshman attack Dalen Crouse scored two of the Knights four goals during the crucial run. Fellow freshman attack Zach Mryncza led the Knights with three goals and two assists on the afternoon. Knight junior attack Jimmy Herberson scored the final goal of the 4-0 run to put St. Andrews up 9-7 with 33 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Wingate sophomore midfield John Martin (Raleigh, N.C.) tallied on an assist from sophomore midfield Chris Manwaring (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) to cut the lead to 9-8 with 14:35 to go in the fourth quarter. Martins goal would be the last score of the contest. On the afternoon, Martin led the Bulldogs with a career-high three goals. Senior midfield Blake Taylor (Williamstown, Australia) had two goals and one assist for the hosts. Maxwell had one goal and two assists, while Manwaring also contributed one goal and two assists. In goal, St. Andrews sophomore netminder Kevin Woods went the distance, notching 16 saves. Wingate senior goalkeeper Jonathan Cofer (Kingwood, Texas) also played 60 minutes. Cofer recorded eight saves. |
