GREENSBORO, N.C. (February 2, 2004) -- The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team finished 2-1 at the Tony Cullen Tournament Sunday. The Royals had three scrimmages against Pace University, Guilford College and Lees-McRae College. Queens lost to No. 5 nationally ranked Pace University 6-0 in the first game of the day. The Royals' inexperience showed but goalie Joel Heimbigner (Fr., Poway, Cal.) kept the score down with 12 saves. The Royals rebounded by beating Guilford 5-3 in the second scrimmage. Ben Storms (Fr., Macungie, Pa.), Mark Phillips (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio), Josh Bryce (Fr., Woodbridge, Va.), Owen Ham (Fr., Durham, N.C.) and David Overberg (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) each contributed a goal. Andy Delamielleure (Fr., Durham, N.C.) and Bryce added assists. Drew Morgan (Fr., Vienna, Va.) was impressive in goal with 13 Saves. The third scrimmage was shortened due to an injury to one of the Lees McRae's players. The Royals came out on top of their Deep South rivals with a 2-1 victory. Both goalies contributed two saves and Mike Ragazzo (Fr., Carrboro, N.C.) and Delamielleure each had the goals for Queens. Delamielleure's goal came in an extra-man situation with less then a minute to go to seal the win. "I think for our first time out it was a good performance," said Queens head coach James Fritz. "We can continue to get better. The games really showed what we still need to work on. We came away with only one minor injury so I was happy about that. This week we will work hard to get ready for Charlotte Lacrosse club." The Royals play Charlotte Lacrosse Club Saturday at 2:00 p.m. |
