Wingate's Ziegler picked to coach in North-South Game

Perry, N.Y.----Wingate University head men’s lacrosse coach Sonny Ziegler has been named the head coach for the South squad in the 67th annual United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) North-South All-Star game for NCAA Division I and Division II senior student-athletes. University of North Carolina head coach John Haus will join Ziegler on the South staff. For more information, click here.

BANNER ELK, NC -- Catawba senior Kurt Green ( San Diego, CA /Mt. Carmel HS) accounted for 10 points, scoring six goals with four assists, to lead the Indians to a 20-11 win over host Lees-McRae in men’s lacrosse action on Thursday night at Tate Field. The Catawba Indians even their record at 7-7, while the Bobcats fall to 3-10.
 
The game was scoreless for the first six minutes, but Green had two goals and an assist over a 1:18 span to give Catawba a 3-0 lead at the 7:32 mark of the opening quarter. The Indians would build their lead to 10-1 before Lees-McRae reeled off the final four goals of the half to close within 10-5 at the break.

The Bobcat closed the gap to 11-9 midway through the third quarter, but a goal by Nick Desper (Carrboro, NC/Chapel Hill HS) at the 7:40 mark and another by Green 40 seconds later sparked an eight-goal run that gave Catawba a comfortable 19-9 lead with 13 minutes to play. Desper followed Green with five goals.

Ben Huber ( Westminster, MD /Westminster HS) made eight saves for Catawba, while Brad Ross (Freeland, MD/Calvert Hall HS) finished up the contest and had one stop. Freshman Mary Tuohy (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS) and Cameron Kent (Roshester, NY/N. Mecklenburg,NC HS) each had a goal and three assists, while Sean Duggan (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh HS) added three goals.

Matt Markey had three goals and an assist for Lees-McRae. Brandon Marks also had three goals.Wednesday, April 23, 2008

All-Tournament team announced

Mars Hill College freshman midfielder Tyler Farmer (Calgary, Alberta) has been named the 2008 Deep South Conference Tournament’s Most Valuable Player, league officials announced this week. Farmer racked up six goals and three assists in the two games, leading Mars Hill to its first DSC tournament title. For more information, click here.

Mars Hill Earns First DSC Tourney Title with 9-7 Win Over SLU

Mars Hill, N.C.----
The Mars Hill College men’s lacrosse team earns its first-ever Deep South Conference tournament title Sunday, as the host Lions utilized a 5-0 second quarter run to take a 9-7 victory over Saint Leo University Sunday in the DSC championship game at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium on the MHC campus. Mars Hill upsets number two Catawba 11-10

Mars Hill, N.C. ---
The Mars Hill Lions upset the No. 2 seed Catawba College, 11-10 in the Deep South Conference Tournament held on the campus of Mars Hill College at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. MHC will meet Saint Leo in the championship game on Sunday at 2 p.m. Saint Leo upset top-seeded Wingate University, 8-7 in double overtime to move into the tournament finals. Saint Leo knocks off top-seeded Bulldogs in two overtimes

Mars Hill, N.C.----Saint Leo sophomore midfielder Kyle Marceau (Concord, N.H.) scored with 1:52 remaining in the second overtime, as the fourth seeded Lions of Saint Leo University defeated the top seeded and ninth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs 8-7 in the first round of the Deep South Conference lacrosse tournament Friday afternoon at Meares Stadium. 2008 DSC all-conference team announced

Catawba College senior attacker Kurt Green, who was second in the conference in goals and assists per game, has been named the 2008 Deep South Conference Player of the Year, the league announced Monday. #9 Bulldogs top Catawba 10-7 to claim DSC title

The ninth-ranked Wingate University lacrosse team jumped out to a 9-2 lead, then held on defeat the Catawba College Indians 10-7 Saturday afternoon in Deep South Lacrosse action at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field. Wingate improves to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the DSC, claiming the 2008 regular season title. Catawba falls to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in the DSC. For more information, click here.

Saint Leo defeats Rollins 13-2; Earns DSC Tournament bid

The Saint Leo University lacrosse team (7-7, 1-3 DSC) clinched a spot in the Deep South Conference tournament with a 13-2 win over visiting Rollins College (2-13, 0-4 DSC) in the regular season finale on Friday night at University Field. For more information, click here.

Bulldogs sweep weekly DSC awards

Wingate, N.C.--- The Wingate University Bulldogs swept the weekly Deep South Conference awards, league officials announced Monday. Wingate junior attacker Ryan Otterblad (Dumfries, Va.) was named the offensive Player of the Week. Bulldog redshirt sophomore Adam Krinsky (Hicksville, N.Y.) was named the Defensive Player of the Week while Billy Mutton (Mechanicsville, Va.) was named the Freshman of the week. Perry, N.Y.----The Wingate University men’s lacrosse team is ranked number seven in the third regular season United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association NCAA Division II Coaches’ Poll for 2008, the USILA announced Monday afternoon. The number eight Wingate University Bulldogs defeated the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey 11-7 Saturday afternoon at Irwin Belk to improve to 4-1 on the season. The number eight Wingate University lacrosse team took a 9-0 lead into halftime and went on to defeat the Tars of Rollins College 14-2 in Deep South Lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon. Wingate improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the DSC. Rollins is 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the league.
